healey's opening.

Well, my buddy Jeff's long-awaited nightspot has finally opened, and guess who went to the opening night party(-ies)?

Humble moi, naturellement!

And oh my goodness, the joint was jumping. The place was jammed to capacity with scenesters schmoozing, musicians grooving, and Forest Hill wannabe girls desperate to show that they're in the know. I mean, even anonymous I was getting schmoozed ("Don't I know you? Haven't we met? You're a friend of Phil's, right?"). It was a struggle just to get my posse in the door. I would hate to be a bouncer, what a thankless job! Especially when everyone and his brother is insisting that he is a close personal friend of the owners.

fortunately, since I *am* a close personal friend of the owners, I didn't have a problem; Jeff was sweet enough to lend his presence to my cause.

Also fortunately, I attended the media party the night before, otherwise I would have no idea what the place looked like, it was so packed with people on friday. Also I had a chance to chat with people, as I could actually hear myself think. Rosie was there (of course), and dave, and John Northcott, and Marcus, who has left the Fruvoids to work for Universal.

It's a great space, the quintessential underground jazz club. Look for Downtown Hazz fest events (including the recently renamed Chet Valiant). And say fare-thee-well to the res.
